School of Telemedicine & Biomedical Informatics
National Resource Center for Telemedicine and Biomedical Informatics

Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow, India is the first academic medical institution in the country to take the initiative to establish a School of Telemedicine and Biomedical Informatics in it’s campus in the year 2006. While, the school was getting built with the support of Uttar Pradesh state government, a project was submitted to the Department of Information Technology (DIT), Ministry of Communication and IT, Government of India to support creation of laboratory infrastructure to carry out inter-disciplinary research in the field of Health IT This project is aiming at creation of a resource center at national level to attract researchers from various fields of science related to health information science and technology to develop research collaboration.
The structured teaching and training program is getting developed in Health ICT are as follows –
• Diploma course (one year duration after +2 level) in specific application areas such as Telemedicine, Medical Image Management, Hospital Information System including PACS, Multimedia medical content development etc.
• Degree & Master Course in Biomedical Informatics (3 years course after +2 level for degree and 2 years course for Masters after graduation in Science stream.)
• Master Course in Telemedicine & Biomedical Informatics (2 years course after graduation in Science stream).
• Ph.D. & Post-doctoral Courses on specialized areas.
The school had already conducted two short term training program on telemedicine and e-Health technology and its application
1. Training Programme for the Delegation from Maldives sponsored by W.H.O.
Five member delegation from the Department of Health, Maldives were deputed for training in Telemedicine and e-health at the newly established School of Telemedicine & Biomedical Informatics sponsored by World Health Organization. The training was carried out between 14th October till 31st October 2007

2. Training Programme for the delegation of Governments of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh
Telemedicine training was provided to thirty members sponsored by Governments of Madhya Pradesh and Thirteen members sponsored by Government of Uttar Pradesh from 11th to 16th February 2008. From the state of Uttar Pradesh one each of doctor, laboratory technician and computer operator was deputed for training from five district hospitals – Barabanki, Baharaich, Unnao, Moradabad and Hardoi.

Training Programme for the delegation of Governments of Maharashtra.
Telemedicine
training was provided to twenty five members sponsored by Governments of
Maharashtra 17th to 22th November 2008. From the one each of telemedicine Nodal officer &
their Facility manager was deputed for training from different districts of state of Maharashtra.

Training Programme for the delegation of Jammu and Kashmir
Telemedicine training was provided to twenty four members sponsored by Governments of J&K 21st to 26th December 2008,from the one each of different medical hospital and college of state.
